Lion Sleeps Tonight

What's he been doing for the last few months?! I hear you ask.. Well I'm excited to now be able to share some art from a book that has recently been released with Scholastic Publishing called 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'. It's based on the original song by Solomon Linda and comes with a brilliant CD performed by the incredibly talented Jay Laga'aia. When I first heard the recording I had it on repeat for a day or two while working on this project - it's terribly fun and bound to get the kids dancing along.
Hugest thanks to Andrew, Angie and the lovely people at Scholastic for letting me do this book with you =)

I'm also working on a few exciting animation projects at the moment and look forward to sharing some work once it has reached release date.

I saw this book a few weeks ago (it really stood out!), and thought "wow! And that name looks familiar...", went home and googled you and realised that I'd already bought (and loved) your eBook from Imaginism ages ago.
So THEN I found this blog (how did I miss it before?) & subscribed, and also went back and bought the book, which my 4 year old and I will fight over. It's currently hiding in the Christmas present cupboard, so I haven't played the CD, only drooled over the luscious pictures.
It's gorgeous. And I love the sketches on the endpapers.

Thanks so much Kyle and Nicholas =)

Hi Toria, I'm so pleased you like the book. It was a stack of fun to do and music is just brilliant - I hope you have fun on Christmas day getting your groove on with the kids dancing along! I'm looking forward to reading it to my nephew and niece when they are over this month too =)

Hey Caerphilly, wow thank you, I'm chuffed that I'm part of the inspiration journey you're on - Animation school sounds like it'll be amazing. I really wish you all the best with your applications and hope that you get to work on some projects you love and are proud of.

Oh my gosh, I just also found "Never Smile at a Crocodile" at the big Scholastic warehouse sale! How did that fly under my radar before now? It's now hiding in the present cupboard too! :D Very chuffed.
Are there any others I have missed? Are you allowed to say which song is next in the series?
Thanks for such beautiful work! I absolutely adore how you handle colour & atmosphere, and the solidity of the characters.
Have you switched from paint to digital between the 2 books?
