From Somewhere Else

It's almost here, and it will be a lot of fun. I have dropped off all the paintings to the gallery and they are just aching to be hung up..!

To celebrate the show I am also presenting a limited release of books containing all the paintings from the exhibition as well as sketches and writing about the work. I have been down to the book binders and it is looking very very tasty. These will be available at the opening and I hope to post more information about it as soon as I can.

If you are in South Australia next week, make sure you come down and say Hi on opening night.

Opening November 26th 6pm - 8pm
Closes Dec 17th
Gallery 139
139 Magill Road, Stepney

I Find your art pretty awesome.
The toyish, cartoonish, super rendered look... one of my favorite... don't know even how to discribe it properly.

Curious about how you go about it.
Is it painting all analog, semi digital... all digital.. (I think I saw pencils...)

What are your inspirations?

Awesome stuff!

Thanks everyone-I really appreciate it =)

gonzalexx - Thanks so much mate! Most of the work I do is oil on canvas. I usually draw up my ideas as rough sketches, and then refine them with a cleaner drawing before beginning the final painting. Quite often I will find references to help me achieve the lighting and finishes I'm looking for.
oh man, my inspirations are very eclectic..They include a bucket full of amazing contemporary artist, every cartoon I ever watched, and artists like Manet, Lawrence Alma-Tadema, John Singer-Seargent and heaps more...

Thanks Shane... the main reason your art clicked with me is because my niece had drawn a character, and brought it to me. I re-did it with a few poses in pencil, giving it depth and motion, so to speak. Took a liking to it. Then some time passed, and I started trying my hand a digital drawing (still extremely green at this... I'd say embryonic)... here is probably my first attempt at digital drawing/painting.

I hope you can see why your art resonated with me.
I am clearly starting with more enthusiams than skill.. but you can see where I'm going if you check out the rest of my flickr uploads.
Your work rocks. Best of luck!

Your work is just gorgeous.. Unfortunately I was in Adelaide a couple of weeks too early, or your exhibition was a couple of weeks too late, or I definitely would go.

In addition, will you have prints from this exhibition available for sale? I love "Stragglers" and "Left Behind"..

Realspace - Thanks so much mate! I'm sorry you missed the show. I'm not sure I have decided if I will be doing prints from the exhibition yet. I will possibly only pick a few of the best. I will certainly post here if they happen.

Shane =)
